In Appreciation Of Hakeem Effect & His Contributions To Nollywood

Hakeem Onilogbo is 38 years old. But I doubt if a lot of people in Nollywood know or care about his age. He was born in Ibadan, Oyo state where he attended Egba Comprehensive High School. I doubt this concerns many either.

It is Hakeem’s works since he added “Effect” to his name – now popularly known as Hakeem Effect – that has put him in the subconscious of Nollywooders.

In less than five years, Hakeem Effect has transitioned from being that guy who just did simple makeup retouching to the go-to person for elaborate creative features. His recreation of horror injuries and ability to transform actors’ faces into something entirely different with the use of effects is nothing short of jaw-dropping.

At a time when Nollywood still breathlessly chases Hollywood in terms of visual and special effects quality in filmmaking, what Hakeem Onilogbo is doing is worth a little more than mere verbal commendation. Sure he is making his money. But he is also doing things the right way and is a breath of fresh air, away from the ridiculousness we witnessed a decade or two ago.

This post is an appreciation and hopefully, he gets to add to the AMVCA andAMAA trophies already sitting pretty on his cabinet.

Way to go Hakeem!
