Check out five interesting things you should know about 2017 Oscar nominations.

The nominees for the 89th and 2017
Academy Awards were announced on
Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

The nominees include "Fences," "Hidden Figures," "Moonlight," Viola Davis, Denzel Washington, Mel Gibson, Hacksaw Ridge among others.
We have put together five interesting
things you should know about the nomination list.

1. In contrast to 2015 and 2016 when no person of colour was nominated in any of the four major acting categories, a record seven performers of color were recognized in the top acting categories this year.

2. Meryl Streep earned her 20th Oscar
nomination for her role in "Florence Foster Jenkins." With the nomination, Streep remains the actress with the most Oscar nominations.

3. After 20 years, Mel Gibson's war film
"Hacksaw Ridge" earned Gibson his first Best Director nomination since "Braveheart" in 1996.
The war film also scored five other nominations, including Best Actor for Andrew Garfield and Best Picture.

4. "La La Land," a musical comedy scored 14 nominations, becoming one of the most nominated movies in the Academy Awards history.

With 14 nominations, "La La Land" joins nominee record-holders "All About Eve" ( 1950) and "Titanic" (1997). In their various years of nomination, "All About Eve" won six Oscars while "Titanic" won 10 awards.

5. Viola Davis became the first black woman to receive three Academy Award nominations with her nomination for a supporting role in
“Fences.” The actress who already won a Golden Globe for her “Fences” role, got her first Oscar nod for her appearance in “Doubt” (2008).
Davis got her second Oscar nod in 2012 for her role as a maid in “The Help.”

What would happen if Nollywood had an award ceremony that 'honors' the worst films and actors every year?

Hollywood has Razzie Awards. Bollywood has Ghanta Awards. Nollywood, however has no award platform that honors horrible films and actors each year.

Razzie Award is a platform that honors the worst movies and performances of the year. The winners are determined by more than 600 voters in the U.S. and voters from other foreign countries.
Razzie Awards usually hold a day to the Oscars. Over the years, box office successful movies and award winning actors like Ben Affleck, "Fifty Shades of Grey," Michael Bay, Tyler Perry, Sandra Bullock have emerged winners.
In 2016, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan won the worst actor of the year for his role in "Dilwale."
Marion Cotillard, an Oscar award winner got a French Razzie worst actress Nomination.
There are five things that must happen if Nigeria got an award ceremony that honors the worst in film.

1. 70% of Nollywood movies and actors would make the nominee list

Every year comes with disastrous big screen bomb. Bad movies are nothing new in Nollywood, and considering that at least 70% of Nollywood movies are badly made, coming up with the Nollywood Razzie will not be a difficult task.
Once in a while, a great actor or veteran delivers a horrible role interpretation. Also, 70% of the time, horrible actors are featured in movies that make it to the cinema.

2. Most filmmakers are actors will go in search of their 'haters'

In Nollywood, a negative article directed at a filmmaker simply means the writer is a 'hater.' Imagine an award system that honors horrible movies, most filmmakers will take to social media to write epistles about their hard work and their haters.

3. There would be a physical battle

Some filmmakers and actors will take the battle off social media to the physical.  In Nollywood, most filmmakers struggle to handle criticism appropriately. And for something as 'simple' as the Razzie, some will directly or indirectly go in search of the organizers.

4. Some filmmakers and actors will get better

If Nollywood had a Razzie award, some filmmakers will pick the important lessons and corrections that are being offered by their critics and get better.
Some actors would bear in mind that just because someone feels a certain way about their talent in a particular production, doesn't mean they are not creative or generally good at what you do.

5. Most filmmakers will come up with ridiculous responses

Who isn't familiar with some ridiculous responses Nollywood actors, producers and directors come up with?
A Razzie award will simply birth more hilariously absurd responses such as 'go and shoot yours first,' 'I am making my money,' 'my movie has won several awards,' 'I am acting for my 10 million social media followers' among other responses.
What are somethings that would happen if Nollywood had an award ceremony that honours the worst in film?

Ace movie producer, 2016 most bankable actor and the only one to be featured in the top three highest grossing movie in Nollywood history (30 days in Atlanta, a trip to Jamaica and the wedding party).

Setting his own records and breaking them himself. A few days ago, Ay Makun announced his next movie project, christened "10 days in sin city", a trip to South Africa. Not until yesterday was my attention drawn to the fact that just few days to his announcement, had i written up a post about the three possible location AY could take his fictional character of Akpos to.

Adventures of Apkos: After Jamaica where next?

I name dropped Brazil and Hollywood California, but choose South Africa as the most favorite choice and here we have it: 10 days in sin city; a trip to South Africa.

Whether the movie follows and is a sequel of his past two installments is yet to be known but either way, Ay Makun might just have to contact me ASAP before i reveal his next big plan.

We all know (or maybe just a few of us) the story of one of  Hollywood's hottest teen, Kylie Jenner, daughter of Kris and Catilyn Jenner and the last born in the Jenner-Kardashian clan.

She has everything a teen and even some adults can only dream of having, she rolls with the big guns and and plays in the big boys game from photo shots, to covers of magazines, to butt implant surgeries and it kind, to back it up she has the support and backing of her mama Kris Jenner, but this post isn't about her, its about a Nollywood version of her that might be in the making.

Regina Daniels, daughter of Rita Daniels, Chairman of Delta State Actors Guild of Nigeria. Regina Daniels is probably the most sort out teenage actress presently in the Nollywood scene, charging a whooping sum of five hundred thousand naira per movie from four to ten thousand range she was charging when was just starting out in the game.

Regina Daniels who just celebrated her fifteenth birthday last October made headlines recently, when she posted some not so Nigeria cultured pictures on her Instagram to celebrate clocking another year.

She had fans and lovers of Nollywood all over her matter. as they were all on her trail, some critizing her for the picture others judging her.

We just might be on the verge on seeing a Nollywood version Kylie Jenner, i just hope she remembers the root she's from and on the journey to stardom not turn herself to the object of satisfaction of some perverted minds.

So in 2014, we saw comedian Ayo Makun take his on-screen fictional character of Akpos along with his millions of dedicated and loyal fans on a trip to Atlanta in a 30 days holiday trip in which his on screen character won from the MD of Lekki Gardens.

It was an hour + of compelling and thrilling masterpiece of a film, breaking records and setting new ones, winning awards and putting Nollywood on the map outside Nigeria.

Last year we were treated to the adventures of Akpos in Jamaica, a movie that shattered box office rankings set by its predecessor. Billed as one of the best movies to come out of  Nollywood last year.

Akpos has been to Atlanta and Jamaica, it now begs the question, where next will this witty, unorthodox character go? There are so many options for the ace producer and comedian in which he can drive this character to but i will streamline it to the three possible locations in the world that will most likely prick the interest of the Warri born character.

Rio Brazil: Brazil is a country known for its aura of beautiful Latina women and we know how much affinity Akpos has for ladies, so it wont be surprising to Akpos head to Brazil for a nice time out.

South Africa: Billed to be the next country behind Nigeria to have the best economy on the continent, beating his homeland in the aspect of technology and infrastructure, it will be totally understandable if Akpos decides to visit the Southern part of Africa.

Hollywood California: The bedrock of everything entertainment in the US. Maybe Akpos is a big fan of one of the well acclaimed and celebrated Hollywood celebrity and who knows, he might get an opportunity at meeting this celebrity of his just to say Hi and let this celeb know how big a fan he his of him or her.

Anyway, whichever place this Warri guy decides to take his adventures to next am sure his Nigerian and Ghanaians will have no qualms going with him.

2017 is shaping up to be one of the best years in the movie industry worldwide and with such we are ushered into the year with a sequel to Fifty Shades of grey; the movie adaptation of EL James best selling, intriguing, erotic BDSM novel Fifty Shades Darker.

Like they did before and they will do again, these are the top three reason why The Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board will ban Fifty Shades Darker from showing in Nigeria cinemas.

They have no work to do

When you think about it, most of the movies that make it to the Nigeria cinemas don't usually contain a heavy content of sexual activities, those that do, don't make it to the big screen. So they see Fifty Shades as an avenue to exercise their power and authority. People that should be involved strategizing on how to make the Nigeria movie industry better.

To get into the News Headlines

One of the major reasons why The Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board will ban Fifty Shades Darker next year is solely to get back into the News Headlines, since the stint they performed two years ago in feburary 2015, i've never heard anything about The Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board, and i know i speak for millions of Nigerians and movie lover when i say that. So they will likely ban the movie just to get back into the News Headlines.
Like someone said any type of publicity is a good publicity.

Corruption

We all know that most Nigeria Music video and so called Nollywood productions consist of more nudity, sex scenes and its like than Fifty Shades but since the producers of this films are here in nigeria, it is easier to bribe The Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board to allow such video recieve air play and cinema time but since EL James is not in Nigeria, there's no one to bribe The Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board and i don't think she even cares or bother, she makes her money off from the cinemas abroad who are ever ready to show the master piece.

I just hope The Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board will set their piorities right in 2017 and be of better use to the Nigeria Movie Industry instead of banning movies upaandan.

Last week Sunday, Universal Studio released their first official trailer for the 8th installment the the Fast and Furious franchise. amidst a lot of buzz.

The trailer broke records, becoming the highest watched trailer on YouTube in twenty four hours, raking in over 139 millions views within a day. The three minute trailer gave us a slight glimpse into what the movie will encompass come April next year, and out of everything that was shown, there are some things that was depicted that didn't go down well with me.

The title

I found out the title name that Universal Studios decided to give the Eight installment first on actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Instagram account.

The movie was titled The Fate of the furious. This name looks and sounds to long compared to the previous names that was given to some of the previous installment such as 2 fast 2 furiousfast five and the latest addition in furious 7.

There are other great option that The Fate of the Furious could have been substituted for, such as F8FEight, FHate, F F Hate or FF8.

I just hope the movie isn't too boring as the title is.

Jason Statham turning good

Fast and Furious already has large ensemble cast of world renowned actors who comprises of their good guys clan.

One of the selling points of furious 7 was that the team was going against a well grounded and established action actor in Jason Statham, now adding Jason Statham to the good guys clan leaves the team with only mediocre
antagonist to defeat.

Lack of over the top scenes

For Furious Seven we saw stils of Paul Walker running on top of a bus that was about to fall of a cliff, we saw Vin Diesel drive a vehicle out of a skyscraper through another, we saw some of the cast dive out of a plane at thousands of feet high, but in this trailer we are treated to several cars crashing against each other, Dom looking mean as always, numerous voice overs mentioning family and a snow road blowing in to the sky.

None of the above mentioned tops what happened in Furious Seven, its usually difficult to keep up with high expectations, especially when its the eight movie, but its just the first trailer so i will keep my fingers crossed.

Dom turning on his family

This is a lazy way of selling the movie, we've seen this guy go to war side by side with his family for seven films, and you want us to believe he will suddenly turn on them now? Common we are not dumb, find us a better story line.

Absence of Paul Walker

Don't call me a cry baby, you don't expect me to have gotten over the death of the great Paul Walker that easily, i know am not alone when i say that. I mean after seven films, c'mon, but i guess i just have to get used to it, shit happens.

Anyways, I've got my fingers crossed for the next trailer, probably the above mentioned besides the last will get fixed.

I remain shalombrain.
