There has been a lot of online outrage since the Sunday after Nigerians found out that reality show Big Brother Naija is actually being held in South Africa.

A statement from the broadcasting company, Africa Magic however stated that the main reason for the setting of the reality show is the availability of a location ready made for the reality show.

It read, “We have a fully equipped house in South Africa which is used for the Big Brother shows. For the Voice, our approach was pretty much the same.

“The venue is already set up with all facilities required for the successful execution of the show; this means that we are able to achieve high production values whilst meeting tight timelines/deadlines and ensuring the show comes to our viewers on time, as planned, and with the same globally renowned quality.

“Whilst the house is based in South Africa, the BBN show is 100% Nigerian, with fully Nigerian housemates and content.

“Africa Magic also noted that Big Brother Naija has been greatly improved since the ten years it last aired on Nigerian television.

“The past 10 years and successes of other Big Brother Africa shows have provided opportunities for improving on the show and now we are ready to give the best version of the show to Nigerians.

K9, Yemi Alade and Flavour performed at the opening ceremony of Big Brother Naija 2017.”

As we continue to give you the blow-by-blow breakdown of how Nigerian cinema fared in 2016, we can exclusively report that two hundred and ten (210) films were released into the cinemas in the past year.
Of the 210 releases, fifty (50) of them were Nollywood films. This represents a 25% increase from the 40 released in 2015 and an almost 100% increase from the 24 films released in 2014.
According to FilmOne Distribution who provided the figures, the percentage of Nollywood releases versus Hollywood stood at 25% vs 7‎5%. This ratio was 20% vs 80% in 2015. When box office values are compared, Nollywood films witnessed a 100% growth from 2015’s 15% to 30% as against the 70% box office value of films from outside Nigeria.
The 50 Nollywood releases include films which witnessed limited releases.
